Energy Search Terms

The following is a list of energy terms used to index Resources and Learning searches.

Anaerobic Digestion: A biochemical process which utilizes bacteria in the absence of oxygen to decompose organic matter, whereby methane and other byproducts are produced.

Biodiesel: Diesel fuel produced from biomass.

Bioenergy and Biofuels: Includes forms of energy—electricity, liquid, solid and gaseous fuels—that derive from biomass.

Biofuel Feedstocks: The crops used to produce biofuels.

Byproduct Utilization: The use of byproducts from bioenergy creation for other purposes, such as animal feed.

Energy Conservation/Efficiency: Reducing energy consumption through improved system efficiency or fewer energy consumptive practices, such as driving a tractor less.

Energy Use: Includes audits that evaluate a farm's energy use.

Geothermal: Thermal energy generated and stored in the Earth.

Renewable Energy: Energy sources that are not depleted when used, including solar, wind and geothermal.

Solar Energy: Energy captured through photovoltaic panels, passive heating and other means.

Wind Power: Energy captured through wind turbines.
