Do you or a colleague have an information product that advances sustainable agriculture and need help producing it? Or an idea for a video on a topic that would serve the information needs of farmers, ranchers and/or the educators that serve them? SARE Outreach may be able to help. If your idea meets the criteria below, use the nomination form to submit it for consideration by the SARE Outreach Steering Committee for possible development support from SARE Outreach.
Note: Submissions will be prioritized by the SARE Outreach Steering Committee for development based on alignment with SARE Outreach’s selection criteria and capacities. Submissions are intended to assess information needs and opportunities only. Submission does not constitute a request for or guarantee of funding or a commitment to collaboratively develop the product.
Criteria:
- Supports SARE’s mission to advance innovations that improve profitability, stewardship and quality of life
- Addresses a critical gap in the information needs of farmers, ranchers and/or the educators that serve them
- Illustrates principles of sustainable management that can be adapted for widespread practice
- Extends SARE and SARE-funded research
- Feasible within constraints of budget, time and skills of production partners
- Uniquely appropriate to SARE Outreach’s role (versus SARE regions, state coordinators, or other partners)
Format:
SARE Outreach communications products can include, but are not limited to:
- Books, bulletins, manuals and fact sheets
- Multimedia (videos, podcasts)
- Workbooks or planning manuals
- Curricula
- Online products (websites, digital storytelling, online forums)
SARE Outreach can provide:
- Assistance and funds to develop educational or outreach products
- Content development and editing
- Production and/or distribution services
- Technical assistance
- Promotion and web hosting
Process
Product nominations are reviewed and prioritized by the SARE Outreach Steering Committee each spring and fall. SARE Outreach staff develops a proposed annual work plan based upon the Steering Committee's recommendations each fall. SARE’s Operations Committee makes final budgetary decisions each winter. (Products that are complete or near to complete may be eligible for expedited development.)
Non-English Language Publishing Projects:
We welcome submissions for projects that seek to develop educational materials in a language other than English. The target audience must be U.S. farmers. Due to our limited linguistic and cultural capacities, we recommend that any submission includes a bilingual partner (individual or organization) who is prepared to collaborate on developing and distributing the proposed materials. Submissions must be in English to be considered.
