*The IPM Practitioner- Monitoring the Field of Pest
Management.* Published ten times per year by the Bio-Integral
Resource Center (BIRC). Focuses on providing updates,
announcing resources and discussing methods of pest-control
relevant to Integrated Pest Management. The latest issue
(Vol.17, No.2, February 1995) features the lead-article,
"Alternatives to Methyl Bromide in California Grape
Production." This story discusses the major grape pests
controlled by methyl bromide, problems with chemical
alternatives and many of the non-chemical alternatives being
developed and used by farmers. Such alternatives include
soil-pasteurization with hot water or solar heat, the use of
pest-resistant grape rootstocks, soil management and several

mode of action, environmental impacts, health hazards and

pesticide PAC contributions and Congressional sponsorship of
HR 1627 and S1478, bills sponsored by the pesticide industry.

*Appropriate Technology Transfer for Rural Areas
(ATTRA).* An information clearinghouse for sustainable
agriculture, providing free technical and general
information to the public. Maintains a staff of
technical specialists, and networks with researchers,
innovative farmers or other agricultural specialists to
answer questions. ATTRA is operated by the National
Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) under a grant
from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Department of
