Howdy, all--
I'm heading for my train with Michael Specter's article in hand, in the
current (4/10/00) /New Yorker/--"The Pharmageddon Riddle: Did Monsanto just
want more profits, or did it want to save the world?"
A quick scan shows it to be your usual New Yorker fluff piece on A Great
Visionary Industrial Leader, in this case, Bob Shapiro.
Though the Quick Scan shows this quote:
"The reason there is controversy about this has nothing to do with
biotechnology. This is about power. It's about them saying that if you want
to make changes in people's lives or introduce new technology, you...are
going to have to go through us. And if we don't approve, we are going to
bring you down." --Bob Shapiro
And here we thought he was asleep through all of this.
How very odd, that people would want some say in the technology unleashed
upon them.
As for the article, I'll know more when I get to the other end of my train
ride home tonight....
peace
