Position Announcement: Apprenticeship opportunities in sustainable =
agriculture
Description:Garden Harvest Inc., a 100 acre non-profit farm, has =
openings for six apprentices, one of whom is to be skilled in masonry or =
carpentry, in its twelve month USDA-funded education program. Learninig =
will include all aspects of organic farming, including the production of =
tree fruit, vegetables, culinary & medicinal herbs, and specialty cut =
flowers. Instruction includes formal classes as well as field =
supervision. The program will run one year, starting January 1. On =
non-farmable days(the off-season or rainy), apprentices will work on the =
construction of farm buildings. The rest of the time they will be =
involved in the farm and have the opportunity to specialize in any area =
of special interest(whether herbs, vegetables, orchards, flowers, etc.).

Requirements: Must be physically fit, highly motivated, and have a =
sincere interest in organic farming=20

Financial remuneration:
The five apprentices who do not have substantial construction skills: =
$240 a week plus a year-end bonus of approximately $2500 to be used =
specifically for further education in any field of their choice.
The apprentice with substantial carpentry and/of masonry skills: =
$27,000 a year.

Additional Benefits for all six Apprentices: medical coverage, free =
organic produce, possible housing.
