Large, transdisciplinary program in AgroEcosystem Health (AESH) seeks
post-doc for 26 month research position with extension possible. The
ideal candidate will have a background in community or, preferably,
landscape or ecosystem ecology, but is able to think across
disciplinary boundaries and to collaborate with a diverse team on
integrative assessment of the landscape. The AESH Program comprises
three overlapping dimensions - Socio-Economic, Community Health and
Biophysical.
The program began in September 1993 and is funded under Canada's Tri-
Council EcoResearch Program. AESH is a unique opportunity and will
provide the basis for developing integrative assessments linking the
socio-economic, human health and biophysical apects of regional
scale systems. We are seeking to develop comprehensive indicators of
health in Ontario agroecosystems. We are searching for a candidate to
fulfil the goals of the program's Biophysical dimension. Duties will
include:
- Coordination of research conducted by graduate students and other
post-docs in ecology, crop science, environmental biology,
geography, etc.
- Development of a conceptual model linking these projects and
integrating them with the Community Health and Socio-Economic
dimensions to develop ecosystem-level indicators.
- Individual research program addressing some aspect of agroecosystem
health. Vegetation and soils are critical foci and experience with
empirical research with either or both will be looked on favourably.
Salary is $30,000/year including benefits. Preferred start-up date is
1 August 1994. THIS IS A MAJOR OPPORTUNITY IN INTEGRATIVE SCIENCE!
