Assistant Project Coordinator
Biologically Integrated Orchard Systems
Community Alliance with Family Farmers Foundation

A new project has been developed for Merced County almond growers who wish
to reduce their use of pesticides and/or synthetic fertilizers. This
project, known as "Biologically Integrated Orchard Systems" or BIOS, is
coordinated and sponsored financially by the Community Alliance with Family
Farmers Foundation (CAFF Foundation). This project gives farmers the
opportunity to learn how to manage their orchards using cover crops,
beneficial insects, and other biological practices. Farmers and their pest
control advisors are working with an experienced management team to
monitor soil and plant nutrients, and pest and beneficial insect
populations. The project will be expanded to Stanislaus County for almond
growers and to Yolo and Solano Counties for walnut growers.
BIOS is looking for an Assistant Project Coordinator. The Assistant
Project Coordinator will work closely with other BIOS staff to coordinate
monthly management team meetings, grower field days and problem-solving
meetings. Additional responsibilities will include serving as staff
liasion to management team members, recruiting farmers, and overall program
development.
Required Skills: Ability to work well with a team.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Knowledge of ecologically-based farming systems.
Experience working with farmers and agricultural
professionals.
Familiarity with Macintosh computers.
Willingness to travel (4 days per month on road).

The Assistant Project Coordinator position will be full-time with
benefits, including four weeks paid vacation per year. The position starts
May 16.
