I is reasonable to infer that individuals in bitnet or internet are using
the resources of their institution to send mail. In some instances may
be receiving salary for the time spent on the machine. May even be using
the institution's equipment. I think it is inappropriate to use NAL
resources to insult the integrity of a scientist and scientific
publications that have undergone peer review, simply because one
disagrees with the results. And I am not pleased that federal monies are
being used to do this. I have my opinions and I have the freedom to
state them, but I should be professional in my activities, when I am
using the resources of a professional organization. I believe the
reprimand was appropriate and that that type of personal smearing should
not come from one using government resources. If she wishes to buy her
own access to the net, let her speak. Now I wonder who is going to imply
that I have indicated support for one side or the other of the BST
debate. I am not so sure all those who found her activities offensive
were BST supporters, but it is fun to blame those who disagree with you
to be unduly biased or bought out. A conspiracy perhaps? Perhaps we
should hunt out these individuals with unacceptable opinions and purge
them. These are just the comments of an individual the would prefer to
learn from the net and see the net used to respond to peoples needs
rather than a basis for inuendo, insults and soap box preaching. I have
remained silent until now, probably will again. dlw
