I agree. The FDA labeling "guidelines" (distributed courtesy of an
industry lobbying group) and the recent litigation by Monsanto against an
Iowa farmer's cooperative regarding labeling, seem to be an attempt to
constrain what information consumers can use to make choices. If I choose
to consume rBGH free dairy products because of animal welfare concerns or
because of concerns about how increased feed requirements will affect
cultivation practices, then that is my right.
Do these kind of labeling guidelines mean that foods cannot be labeled as
organically grown if they do not show large differences in pesticide
residue?
