Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that we have posted the SARE database of funded
projects on the web!

The Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program has funded
about 1,400 projects since its inception in 1988. Now in its twelfth year,
SARE supports grants to researchers, educators and growers (see types of
grants) in a program that is administered regionally with extensive input
from the many stakeholders involved in agriculture in the U.S. The extent
of farmer/grower participation in all phases of the grant-making process has
given the SARE program the respect of producers, educators and many
*administrators* throughout USDA and other agencies!

Access the database from the SARE homepage (http://www.sare.org/). Click on
"Funded Projects" to visit a gateway page explaining the grants program, how
to search and basic information about our annual reporting process, which
feeds into the database. For the repeat user of the database, we've set up a
shortcut directly to the database search page.

Take a look at the search tips that we've written. These should help you
make the best use of the database. Let us know if you can improve on them
through your own searching experiences.

Comments, problems, questions about the database should be directed to Dr.
Kim Kroll, SARE associate director (kkroll@asrr.arsusda.gov), and/or to Dr.
Andy Clark, SAN Coordinator (san@nal.usda.gov).

SAN is the outreach arm of the SARE program. Sanet-mg is a SAN-supported
list created in 1991 to facilitate information exchange about sustainable
agriculture.

I think you will be amazed at the depth and breadth of projects funded by
SARE in support of a more sustainable agriculture!

Andy
