RE: slugs, snails

I do know several local organic farmers growing leaf vegetables who have had
success with well-trained ducks.

It is critical that the ducks be trained as tiny tots, and that they [a] are
locked up at night and [b] get a full grain ration in the morning before [c]
being turned out among the vegetables to hunt down slugs and snails. It's
got to be a disciplined regime - but then, so is the vegetable growing
business, I guess.

but suggestions with other strategies are welcome.
