This posting is about a resource for those teaching courses in sustainable
agriculture. The latest issue of Alternatives Journal, "Reaping What We
Sow", focuses on agriculture and food policy, and we think it could be a
useful text for university-level courses on sustainable agriculture.

Alternatives Journal is a quarterly magazine on environmental thought,
policy and action, published by the Faculty of Environmental Studies at the
University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada.

"Reaping What We Sow" includes these feature articles:

a) Bitter Fruit: our consumption of tropical fruit delivers soil erosion,
deforestation, and loss of biodiversity to Southern producers. By Asoka
Mendis and Caroline Van Bers.

b) Mad Cows and Bad Berries: conventional approaches to solving
agricultural problems can encourage old and new diseases. By David
Waltner-Toews.

c) Saving Seeds: farmers and gardeners are the best hope for protecting
what remains of food plant diversity. By Bob Wildfong.

If anyone is interested in ordering a copy of this special theme issue for
review, or copies for use as a course text, please email me with your
mailing address.

Many thanks.

Yours truly,

Mary Jane Patterson
