Howdy,
Sunday, the cover story of the New York Times Magazine was "Playing God in the Garden" by Michael Pollan. It's finely researched and written. He opens with, "Today I planted something new in my vegetable garden--something very new as a matter of fact. It's a potato called the New Leaf Superior, which has been genetically engineered--by Monsanto, the chemical giant recently turned "life sciences" giant--to produce its own insecticide." The concluding passage is, "So there they sit, a bag of biotech spuds on my porch. I'm sure they're absolutely fine. I pass the bag every day, thinking I really should try one, but I'm beginning to think that what I like best about these particular biotech potatoes--what makes them different--is that I have this choice. And until I know more, I choose not.
If you have the interest, the article is well worth reading. I don't know if its available on line or not.
And as for the "Viagra" discussions, Misha, I guess you better not tell your 8 inches joke. I'm not too sure there is much of a sense of humor out there in SANET land.
Peace,
Kate Smith
