Greg: yes, definitely, canola can outcross and transmit GE traits
into adjoining fields. This has been experimentally documented and
reported in the sci journal lit for several years. Likewise potato,
for sure, and I believe other crops. My understanding is that the
risk of outcrossing - transmitting GE traits into wild ancestors or
other fields of the same crop - is so high as to have warranted a
major international workshop at CIMMYT a couple of years ago - heard
this from Bruce Hunter (Novartis) at a GE workshop in Ottawa this
summer.

This is a known, predictable, and totally unacceptable risk that
anyone involved in GE was/is aware of. It would be my hope that as
producers see what is happening in their own fields, they will be
much MUCH more cautious about believing the foolishness that is
coming from GE proponents, not all of whom are employed by the life
sciences companies. Ann
