Campaign Coordinator To Promote Sustainable Agriculture

Fires of Hope, an innovative project, is seeking a Grassroots Campaign
Coordinator to promote sustainable agriculture in the state of Maryland.
The Campaign Coordinator will work with a broad coalition of Maryland-based
agriculture, environmental, consumer and local government organizations to
encourage farmers in Maryland's Chesapeake Bay watershed to adopt practices
to reduce erosion, control run-off, safeguard habitat, and otherwise
protect the Chesapeake Bay. The campaign will have two major components:
direct outreach to farmers; and creative and aggressive use of the media to
publicize the campaign. The campaign will be housed at Community Media,
Inc., a non-profit communications and outreach organization that develops
and implements broad-based campaigns on important social and environmental
issues.

Primary Responsibilities Will Include:
Design and implement multi-faceted campaign that will include public
relations, media relations, public service advertising and grassroots
outreach to farmers, primarily in the state of Maryland (media relations
work may extend to other states in the Chesapeake Bay region).
Collaborate with coalition of farmers, environmentalists, consumers and
government officials to maximize the effectiveness of the campaign.
Help conceptualize and produce materials needed to complement the campaign.
Contribute ideas and contacts to assist in ongoing fundraising efforts.
Take other steps as appropriate to encourage farmers to adopt sustainable
agriculture practices.

Other Duties Will Include:
Develop messages and "pitch" strategies for media placement.
Identify existing promotional and educational materials that can be used in
this campaign at low or no cost.
Participate in coalition meetings.
Travel around the state of Maryland to meet with farmers, coalition
partners, media outlets, others.

Qualifications and Experience Required:
3-5 years experience working in media and public relations, preferably
developing and implementing grassroots media campaigns.
At least a basic knowledge of sustainable agriculture practices.
Minimum BA/BS degree (preferably in a communications- or
agriculture-related field)
Excellent writing samples.
Successful track record in media placement.
Competence in word processing own work.
Ability to provide attention to detail in all work.
Experience working with community-based organizations.
