I would suggest moving the last item - about funding, manufacturers, PROFIT
- up to the top as the leading reason for misguided science-as-God
thinking. Patent, patent patent - that's where the money is! If a company
(pesticide manufacturer, pharmaceutical company, etc.) can't patent,
they're not interested in any other application of science.

Example: Viagra (fully defended by the FDA, even now) has killed 69 poor
fools in the first four months since it has been marketed. The media still
bleats about possible "dangers" associated with (unpatentable) medicinal
herbs, which have theoretically killed 79 people in the two decades anyone
has bothered to notice, while JAMA recently published a study revealing
that conventional drugs kill 100,000 people every year! (see their
website). Consumers are so suckered by science (as industry chooses to
apply it) that they'll panic without the protection of the FDA when it
comes to natural herbs, and shrug their shoulders at the Viagra fiasco. Go
figure!
