Andy, Do you think people on sanet would be interested in this? I kept
seeing material on nutrients and forwarded one to Joanne. This was her
response to me. If you think this would be appropriate, please put on
the net. thanks. jim

Hi,
Nutrient Data Lab develops and maintains the National Nutrient
Databank, a repository of nutrient values for about 6000 foods and up
to 65 nutrients. Previously the data were released as Agricultural
Handbook #8: Composition of Foods: Raw, Processed, and Prepared.
Today we release our data on the internet -free-of charge. No new
printed volumes are being generated.
Please access our website at http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp
Our primary product is the Nutrient Database for Standard Reference
(SR). This database is updated each year. The most current version,
Release number 12 was made available on March 30, 1998. There is a
small search program available which allows one to access the foods
on a one-by-one basis. Please try to access our data and then
contact me or one of the other Nutritionists with your questions.
One database of special interest may be the carotenoids database. It
is not currently an integral part of SR However, an update will be
available in within a month or so. It contains median values for
five individual carotenoids in many fruits and vegetables and several
other formulated foods.
I appreciate your interest. I look forward to hearing about your
experience with our website.
Sincerely,
Joanne Holden
