For copies of the following resources, please contact the
appropriate publishers or organizations directly.

*Pesticides in Surface Waters: Distribution, Trends, and
Governing Factors, 1997.* Steven Larson, Paul Capel and
Michael Majewski. Reviews all peer-reviewed and
government studies of pesticides in U.S. surface waters
from 1950s to early 1990s, including small- and large-
scale studies. Assesses current understanding of the
occurrence and distribution of pesticides in surface
waters. Presents wide range of data on pesticide
contamination and points out data gaps and research
needs. Describes characteristics of studies reviewed and
gives overview of pesticide distribution, factors
affecting fate of pesticides in surface waters, and
analysis of key factors. 373 pp. US$69.95. Ann Arbor
Press, Inc. 121 South Main Street, P.O. Box 310,
Chelsea, MI 48118; phone toll free (800) 858-5299 or

*Pesticides in Ground Water: Distribution, Trends, and
Governing Factors, 1996.* Jack Barbash and Elizabeth
Resek. Compiles and presents findings of peer-reviewed
studies on groundwater contamination by pesticides in
the U.S. Summarizes current understanding of factors
influencing pesticide contamination of groundwater.
Finds that pesticides from every chemical class have
been detected in U.S. ground waters, and examines where,
when and why ground water contamination occurs. 588 pp.

*Pesticides in the Hydrologic System Series.* U.S.
Geological Survey (USGS). Four books in series address
current understanding of pesticides in hydrologic
system, including surface and ground waters (described
above); "Pesticides in the Atmosphere" (currently
available) and "Pesticides in Bed Sediments and Aquatic
Biota in Streams" (available summer 1999). Series
compiles broad range of data from many studies, and is
intended as stand-alone reference designed for
scientists, policy makers and others. Full set available
for US$199.95. Ann Arbor Press, Inc. 121 South Main

*National Water-Quality Assessment (NAWQA) Program River
Basin Assessments, 1998.* U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
Each report in series describes occurrence and
distribution of pesticides, nutrients, metals and
industrial chemicals; condition of aquatic habitat; and
status of fish communities. Reports cover river basins
throughout U.S., in all regions and many states. Each
assessment relates environmental conditions to local
effects of agricultural and urban land uses, point and
nonpoint sources of contaminants and natural geologic
factors. For further information about which river
systems have been examined, visit NAWQA web site
(below). NAWQA, U.S. Geological Survey, Water Resources
Division, 12201 Sunrise Valley Drive, M.S. 413, Reston,

*Sampling for Pesticide Residues in California Well
Water, 1997.* Presents data of pesticides found in
California well water from July 1, 1995 through June 30,
1996. Assesses contamination levels and discusses
actions taken by California Department of Pesticide
Regulation. No charge for limited copies. 97 pp.
