You are right on target IMO. Moderated lists are not all sweetness and
light. I've seen manipulative, deceptive behavior on a moderated list,
that caused a lot of hurt feelings. Also, moderating a list is a lot of
work! Relatively speaking, Sanet seems fairly civil and polite.

I think the diversity on Sanet is great! Better to vote with your
"delete" key if you think something is not relevant. And if one
disagrees, why not speak up? Better a few hurt feelings than
stultifying conformity!

Just as oxygen promotes health and diversity in the pile, engagement
with and challenge by people unlike oneself, helps prevent ingrown
self-deception and insular goupiness.
