Bill McKibben wrote a good introduction to these problems in the May
Atlantic Monthly, "A Special Moment in History" (pp. 55-78). He pulled
together a lot of the evidence available which points toward the urgent
need for reductions in our (US) consumption rates, and summarized it in
simple, eloquent prose. Sure, he selected the information which supported
his argument. But I'm very glad to see that argument getting mainstream
media play. We are risking a tremendous amount if the conservative
argument to continue "business as usual" in industrialized countries
without heeding the global consequences is flawed.
