The basis of the current problem is certainly not technological.

Regarding "reversing the trend":. To what extent are vested economic and
political interests responsible for the "trend". (If the will is there, the way
won't be lacking). And to what extent are those interests going to be tolerated by
the rest of humanity? In any case, the trend is by definition "unsustainable".
So why procrastinate? Seize the reins.
