Organic market concentration

Hello all,
Elizabeth, a small organic grower in New York, has been kind enough
to share her experiences and perceptions regarding East-West
competition in the wholesale organic produce market with me (thank
you!!). She has really given me some food for thought.
Does anyone else have any info or thoughts
on what seems to be an increasingly concentrated industry and how
small farmers are coping with the competition from large
growing and processing operations? It looks like two parallel
marketing channels are developing: direct means for small growers and
indirect traditional channels for large growers as these channels are
improving their ability to handle organics.

Or am I all wrong? Please let me know! Thanks to all.
