Dear Friends,
We hope that you will respond enthusiastically to the challenge of
awakening people to the knowledge of their environments, in the many
interpretations of the word, through the medium of a festival/conference,
we invite you to join us in this experiment.
Greenpoint/Williamsburgh, the location of the festival/conference, is among
the environmental hell-holes of the country. There are many neighborhood
groups that work to repair certain of the environmental disasters and they
have accomplished remarkable things. Because of their activities, a dim
awareness of the effects of the pollution we live in pervades the community
consciousness. The younger generation is alerted to issues of the
environment through school projects. But as yet, no concerted effort has
given the people the overall view of today' s environmental conditions from
close enough at hand to produce the force-field that will alert them to
what they can do, must do, and most importantly, to what to they will no
doubt want to do, to protect themselves and every other organic being here
on the planet.
Toward that end, we are producing one, big, high-visibility event that will
bring people vital information in the form of a good time, and in the
company of family, friends and colleagues, aim to create an impact that
will resonate into action.
The festival/conference will fill Mc Carren Park with tables and booths
representing as many major environmental organizations as possible.
Environmental workshops will be going on throughout the park, throughout
the day, and a main stage will hold speakers and forums. Localized, low-key
entertainment will be interspersed here and there in the park: story
tellers, magicians, folk songs, etc. Vendors and refreshments will be
related to environmentally sound practices, providing more information.
Greenpoint/Williamsburg is one of the most important art colonies in New
York City, home to thousands of artists from all parts of the world. Their
presence will grace the festival with exhibits and installations also
related to the environment.
At the end of the day, the festival/conference will move into the mood of
celebration with music, song and dance from the main stage. Local music
groups are already writing songs for the occasion.
We look forward to being able to add your environmental platform to the
Festival/Conference in whatever way the issue of environment presents
itself to you, in the form of a table, booth, workshop, or by the presence
of speakers you might introduce or recommend. We also welcome any
entertainers and/or vendors you might suggest whose works or products
relate to the theme.
Mc Carren Park is 55 acres. So far there is no fixed limitation on space
for exhibitors. Space for non-profit organizations is free. Vendors fee, $40.
We open the process of mounting the festival with the above described
framework. But, of course, every conversation with the people and
organizations that come aboard hones its shape. So it is that we await your
participation.
As we proceed, we shall be notifying those who join who else is part of the
program. Please contact us with any further information you might need.
718-383-7467.
Sincerely,
Phyllis Yampolsky, Pres.
