Hi, 5/13/98

Heinrich Harrer wrote the book "Seven Years in Tibet", (dated
prior to & simultaneous with the Chinese invasion of independent
Tibet--This book, by the way, is apparently nothing like the movie,
from what I understand. I've read the book--Haven't seen the movie)
Harrer returned to Tibet 33 years later and has written another book,
describing life in Tibet after the invasion. This book may have some
information for you, as 7YIT(the first book) was pretty efficient in
describing the way of life and social processes of the country as it was
before the invasion; My guess is the second book would do just as good a
job after. The purpose of the book is to describe the differences, and
agriculture is bound to be one of them, as Harrer is/was an avid
gardener.

Best of luck--Harrer, BTW, now lives in Lichtenstein.

Namaste,
Linda Ray
