POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Position: Program Director, Peanut Collaborative Research Program
(CRSP). The Program Director is the administrative head of the Peanut
CRSP, a responsibility of The University of Georgia, College of
Agricultural and Environmental Sciences International Agriculture
Office. The Peanut CRSP is supported by a grant from the U.S. Agency
for International Development (USAID) to The University of Georgia
Research Foundation for support of peanut research, training, and
outreach programs to enhance food production and use and economic
development in developing countries. There is expected feedback of
technologies to U.S. producers and consumers in this Title XII
mandated program. The Peanut CRSP supports collaborative research
and development in some 14 countries and 10 U.S. Universities that
also cost share program support. The Management Entity is supported
by a Board of Directors and Technical Committee composed of
administrators and investigators in the participating institutions and
liaison personnel in USAID/Washington. An External Evaluation Panel
advises these groups.

Responsibilities: The primary responsibility of the Program Director
is to provide leadership for these groups (Board of Directors,
Technical Committee, EEP, etc.) to ensure that programmatic progress
and focus is maintained, that fiscal support and accountability is
present, and that a cooperative spirit exists among the above groups
to enable maximum output and impact of the program. Responsibilities
include develop and implement a five-year program plan to USAID
(includes the drafting of the plan with support from Technical
Committee); seek and develop new or expanded program opportunities,
compile project reports, prepare reports that document impacts,
organize workshops and outreach activities, develop and monitor annual
work plans and budgets, develop agreements with U.S. and Host Country
institutions, coordinate activities of the Board of Directors,
Technical Committee, and External Evaluation Panel, maintain effective
interaction with and support of USAID. In addition, the Program
Director seeks to foster relationships with the International
Agricultural Research System, and other non-government and private
research and outreach groups. The Peanut CRSP is under the
administrative Office of International Agriculture of The University
of Georgia.

Qualifications: The applicant must have a Ph.D./terminal degree in an
agriculture related discipline with strong experience in research for
low input agricultural systems, preferably on peanut in developing
countries of Africa and Asia, relevant to aflatoxin, production
efficiencies, socio-economic issues or utilization and post harvest
concerns. Significant scientific publications should document this
experience. Leadership experience in multi-disciplinary research and
team building is necessary. Project design capabilities and
administrative experience in USAID funded projects desired.
Familiarity with Internet database design and implementation, use of
Web page and other electronic support helpful. Willingness to travel
to and in developing countries. Competency in a second language to
English, preferably French, is desirable.

Terms of Employment: Non-tenure track position, with renewal
contingent on the availability of grant funds, located in The
University of Georgia, College of Agricultural and Environmental
Sciences, and presently located at the Campus at Griffin (30 miles
south of Atlanta airport). The University of Georgia is an Equal

competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience and
availability of funds.
