The entire ONSALE site is amazing enough, but I am beginning to think that
direct marketing might not be such a far-fetched idea after all for those
of us out on the prairies and other isolated places on the planet ~~
particularly with the kind of serious traffic that the ONSALE generates.
These online auctions are far too important as a brand new market channel
-- Omaha Steaks has been moving their product on the ONSALE site for almost
a year now. We'd better take serious look at this opportunity to get MUCH
closer to our ultimate customers, unless we really do think that nobody in
their right mind would really want our products.
It might be time for us to forget about what the packers or wholesalers
want or what kind of a compromise system USDA is going to saddle us with
next ~~ and instead think vertically to produce the product for the
customer (and LISTEN to what she/he tells us!) If anyone else in this
part of the world is interested in moving toward customer-centric lamb
production and direct marketing of a branded total quality product, send me
a note and we'll see if ... we can move beyond cooperation and onto to
collaboration.
