earth. Call the St. Paul, MN office at 612/645-6159 for an application and full

Job Description-- Executive Director
At the Minnesota Project, we work to connect rural issues with environmental
concerns, and people with policy. We motivate, catalyze, and organize among
community leaders as they address their natural resource questions. Since 1979,
we have worked to increase both citizen participation and the quality of
environmental policies, especially in federal farm policy and state energy
policy.
The organization is a statewide effort, governed by an eleven-member statewide
Board of Directors, and supporting three offices-- the main office in St. Paul,
and two home offices in Canton and Round Lake, Minnesota. There are six staff
members working on projects within five main program areas:
¥ whole farm planning (making a transition to sustainable practices)
¥ water quality / farm policy development and implementation
¥ renewable energy development (especially wind power, with SEED,
Sustainable Energy for Economic Development)
¥ sustainable community (small town) development in Central Minnesota
¥ community and university partnerships (supporting MISA, the Minnesota
Institute for Sustainable Agriculture.)
Within this organization, the Executive Director both carries the vision and
oversees the resources. This person also works closely with and supervises
staff in a collaborative team management approach. The Executive Director is
liaison to the Board of Directors and accountable to them.
As overall visionary for the organization, the Executive Director works to
refine and then understand the organization's mission and values, and then
interpret that mission as projects are developed, as collaborative relationships
are formed with other nonprofit partners, and as funds are raised. The
Executive Director will represent the Minnesota Project in government, business,
academic, and nonprofit settings in many communities in Minnesota.
This position requires strong skills and experience in program design, fund
strategizing and fund raising, and all of this is done with one or more current
staff members. The position also requires management skills, financial
management and interpretation skills, and skills in board development. A
working knowledge in one or more of the Minnesota Project program areas will
allow for enhancement of this job by teaming into program efforts, and will add
credibility to the job of Executive Director.
