I am not convinced that the ability of the ocean to assimilate, and
permanently store (in the form of sedimentary biomass or coral or
whatever), CO2 is adequate to absorb all the CO2 from fossil fuel
burning that we are planning on putting into the atmosphere in the next
20 to 100 years. I am also concerned that human activity might be
impairing the ability of the ocean and the land to be productive/competent
in fixing CO2. In any case, I consider my primary point to be that we
need to focus more on promoting sequestration. Enhancing natural
processes on land and in the sea would be fine; I am not a big fan of,
say, burying wood just to hide the carbon; lets just back off a bit on all
the negative things humanity is doing and let natural systems work a little
more naturally.
