2008 Report Summary
Wisconsin SARE Promotional activities included 8 grant-writing or other workshops, and the SARE booth at 3 conferences. Partners in program development and implementation included: Grassworks, NRCS, University of Illinois, University of WI-River Falls, Eau Claire and other universities. A total of $2,000 was distributed to support professional development through mini-grants, and $9,197 was distributed to support travel to professional development opportunities. Major initiatives included grazing, organic agriculture, local foods and marketing, extending knowledge of sustainable agriculture, and post-secondary sustainable agriculture education. Outcomes reported included 63 used information to answer client questions, 26 educators developed new contacts/partners, 47 incorporated into ongoing programs, 26 delivered new programs, and 25 used in newsletter and media. Additionally, 12 used information in research/class work, and 9 used information in classrooms.
2009 Plan of Work Summary
Wisconsin 2009 Plan of Work consists of four major Initiatives. They include: 1) Organic Agriculture, 2) Cover Crops, 3) Systems Approaches and Planning Tools and 4) Extending Sustainable Agriculture Knowledge and Practice. One to three full day workshops, a Fishbowl on Organic Agriculture Research Needs and travel scholarships provide professional development Organic Agriculture training to 35 educators. Workshops, three $1000 mini-grants and developing information resources will equip Wisconsin Extension, Natural Resources Conservation Service and Land Conservation staff with the professional development training they need to provide leadership and technical assistance to farmers. Approximately forty-four Ag Educators will receive travel assistance to participate in Wisconsin State Professional Development Program activities, sustainable agriculture conferences and other sustainable agriculture professional development training.

Diane Mayerfeld coordinates sustainable agriculture professional development opportunities and works on sustainable agriculture curriculum development for high school students. Diane has worked on sustainable agriculture issues since 1996, first in Iowa and for the last 5 years in Wisconsin. Before that she worked on natural area preservation and groundwater protection policy. She has a master's degree in Forestry.
