With support from a SARE grant, West Virginia University Extension Specialist Lewis Jett and his colleagues taught hundreds of growers how to use season extension successfully. The project contributed to an increase in the adoption of high tunnels, which allowed growers to meet a growing demand for healthy, locally raised food. “It’s really helped our farm-to-school program,” Jett says. “That used to be an unattainable option for growers, but now that we have tunnels in place, it’s really an option.”
