With the average age of U.S. farmers more than 55 years old, and the number of younger farmers on the decline, American agriculture faces an uncertain economic future. SARE has made fostering the next generation a priority.

SARE has invested 7 percent of its portfolio in projects that teach new farmers—women and men of all racial and ethnic backgrounds—how to secure land and financing, and to farm sustainably.
