A hoophouse at Phillies
Bridge Farm in Gardiner, NY houses kale and lettuce
seedlings. Phillies Bridge also uses cover crops,
seen in the foreground, to naturally increase soil
fertility. This is an educational farm where a variety
of programs inform people about healthy and sustainable
food production. It's also a CSA (community supported
agriculture), with about 160 members per season.

Naomi Scanlon and her
sister Abby Ladd aren't growing a normal crop, in
fact it's quite pungent. The sisters produce garlic,
selling it by the pound as well as in jellies and
seasonings. They sell out every year through word-of-mouth
and their Garlic Day held in the autumn.
